Laval, August 25, 2025 – The Regroupement des comités de parents autonomes du Québec wishes all Quebec students and their parents a motivating and reassuring start to the school year. We are confident that the children returning to school this week will be able to count on caring, passionate and resilient school staff teams who will do everything possible to mitigate the effects of the austere budgetary context and recruitment difficulties in the education network.

We will remain vigilant, and we ask parents to be as well. Because there will be effects. These effects were difficult to predict, since the budget restrictions in June followed by the change of direction in July left the system very little time to react and organize accordingly.

Despite the renewed funding obtained through pressure from the public, particularly parents, and the education system, many uncertainties remain. This funding, as the Minister of Education himself admitted, is conditional on administrative and budgetary arrangements, which may raise questions about schools’ ability to fully meet students’ needs this year.

The entire ecosystem of community partners that revolves around our schools has also seen its resources recently reduced. Whether it’s food assistance, support for children in difficulty, or services that concretely support students and promote perseverance and success, several key players who have supported the system for years will be forced to do more with less.

In this demanding context, we salute the work of school staff, whose daily dedication allows our children to continue learning and thriving despite the constraints. Their commitment is a source of inspiration and confidence for the entire community.

We also call on parents to be actively involved in their children’s school. Whether on the governing board, in the parent participation organization, or on the parents’ committee, their voice is essential to defending the interests of students and keeping public education at the heart of our collective priorities. Together, through vigilance and commitment, we can preserve the quality and equity of our education system.
