The RCPAQ is a group of parents working for parents. We support all those who contact us in order to contribute to the improvement of the Quebec school system.
We believe that the best solutions arise from collaboration, dialogue and the search for consensus.

Our roots

At the beginning of March 2020, the parent committees of Laval and Montreal chose to reclaim their right to speak out. Recognizing irreconcilable differences with the federation that represented them, they decided to pursue their activism independently.

A few days later, the school closures caused by the pandemic created an urgent need for consultation. The two parent committees then joined forces to make their concerns heard by decision-makers.

This collaboration quickly sparked interest from other parent committees wishing to join the movement. In the summer of 2020, this mobilization led to the official creation of the Regroupement des comités de parents autonomes du Québec (RCPAQ), which was quickly recognized by the Minister of Education as a partner of the education network.

Since then, several other parent committees have joined the group. Today, the RCPAQ brings together more than 1,500 committed parents of students, representing the families of approximately 200,000 students, or nearly 20% of Quebec’s students, spread over more than half of Quebec’s territory.

OUR SUPPORT

The RCPAQ is committed to providing rigorous, pragmatic and high-quality services to parents of students as well as to school governance bodies.

Our support is based on reliable and verified public information, in-depth knowledge of the education network, and a realistic analysis of the situations presented to us. We prioritize concrete, constructive solutions tailored to the realities of each environment.

The RCPAQ offers, in particular:

 

  • A personalized and confidential support service for parents of students, by telephone and email.
  • Specialised support for governing boards and parent committees, including strategic support, information, on-the-ground presence and support in resolving complex situations.
  • Representation to the Ministry of Education, the government, school authorities, education partners and the media.
  • The development of guides, tools, videos, conferences and other information resources for parents of students.
  • Collaborations with organizations, research centers and partners in the education sector.

Visual identity

Our logo symbolizes the bonds that unite our parent committees while respecting the unique identity of each. The interlocking rings illustrate collaboration and the collective commitment of parents, while their arrangement evokes the diversity of our members.
Our colours also reflect our mission:

  • Blue: the well-being, serenity and safety of children.
  • Green: success, respect for our surroundings and the environment.

We’re pragmatic, and know how to distinguish the possible from the improbable. We present tangible, constructive ideas based on the day-to-day realities of Quebec parents and students.

We put forward concerted, united positions, focusing on our common ground, while taking into account the particular conditions and diverse, distinct positions of our members.

Team and Structure

To ensure that our decisions and orientations reflect the realities and issues of our Parents’ Committees, and that our organization remains responsive and flexible, we have established a structure that enables parents to contribute to our ongoing reflections and positions, on behalf of the parents they represent.

Continuous Reflections and Consultation Group

This group of committed parents maintains constant collaboration via an instant digital communication platform, ensuring daily monitoring of the education field and enabling the RCPAQ to react and take a public stance on current events.
