Laval, July 16, 2025 – The RCPAQ welcomes the government’s intention to reverse its decision to withdraw However, we remain cautious about the terms and conditions of this funding restoration.

We particularly encourage parents to engage in school governance structures as soon as the school year begins by participating in their general assemblies and serving on their governing boards. This year, we must be
particularly vigilant about school budgets and ensure that they meet the needs of all students.

It should be remembered that all decisions made by the governing board must be made in the best interest of students, not to endorse political choices. Governing boards will have to analyze revised versions of their school budgets and, if necessary, reject their adoption.

We fear that this reversal of decision, while welcome, will come late in the school administrative process, and that the return to school will be fraught with uncertainty and confusion. We also know that this episode has caused irreversible damage to the system, particularly in terms of staff hiring and retention. Since those who left the education sector in the face of underfunding announced in June will not be returning to the system, despite the readjustment announced this morning, the staff shortage has been exacerbated.

The RCPAQ would like to thank the educational staff who saw their summer marked by an exceptional workload and stress caused by political wavering that was completely avoidable. The education sector will have to
readjust to ensure that the next school year goes smoothly for all students. We know they will, but we are aware that the elastic has been stretched unnecessarily.
