Laval, Wednesday, October 22, 2025 – The Regroupement des comités de parents autonomes du Québec (RCPAQ) welcomes the responsiveness and openness of the Minister of Education, who made the adjustments requested by parents to her proposal to regulate ethics and behavior within governing boards (GB).
The compromise presented by the Minister is balanced and reassuring, as it dispels fears related to a possible reduction in parental influence and opinion in governing board decisions.
The RCPAQ also highlights the relevance of the measure proposed by the MNA for Gouin, which provides recourse for parents whose roles and responsibilities within school boards and parent committees are not respected. This is a long-standing demand of involved parents, who have been asking for a concrete means of enforcing the clear and essential provisions of the law, which are so important for the smooth running of the work of these bodies.
The RCPAQ is pleased to see that dialogue and collaboration can lead to concerted and balanced solutions acceptable to all parties. It is encouraging to see political stakeholders working together, beyond their differences, to protect parental participation in school governance.
The RCPAQ will continue to collaborate effectively and rigorously with the entire education system to give parents a voice, in the interest of the well-being and success of all Quebec children.
