Training for
members of the GB

TIPS AND TRICKS

Food for thought

The RCPAQ collaborated in the development of the mandatory training for members of school councils and school principals, and we endorse its content without reservation. This training is mandatory for members of governing boards in French service centers, but the information contained (in French only) is widely applicable to members of GBs in English school boards.

To help you get the most out of this training, here are some tips and tricks that the RCPAQ team recommends you follow throughout the year.

Key moments

Training is useful for everyone, all the time! Especially during the following key moments:

At the Annual General Meeting of Parents

  1. In the notice of the general meeting, invite parents to read the Training Handbook for members of school councils .
  2. The first item on the agenda was to present the Training and its main tools: the Training Handbook for members of school boards and the thematic fact sheets .

At the first meeting of the Governing Board

At your first meeting of the year (after the general meeting), please plan to cover the following points:

    1. The obligation to report conflicts of interest
    2. The operating rules of the GB (internal management, etc.)
    3. The powers of the GB
    4. The presentation of the list of thematic fact sheets for the Training

During the preparation of the agendas for the Governing Board

For each item on the agenda, make it a habit to include the appropriate link to the training documents for members of the Governing Board.

During the review of the GB’s activities

          1. Towards the end of the year, review the decisions taken during the year and verify their compliance with the Training for members of the GB.
          2. This exercise can also be used to write the annual report!

              Documents

All the documentation for the training for school council members can be downloaded individually. Therefore, make it a habit to include the links in your school council’s working documents to allow your colleagues to access them more easily!
