Laval, Tuesday, August 25, 2026 – The Regroupement des comités de parents autonomes du Québec (RCPAQ) wishes students and their families, as well as all the dedicated personnel who will support them throughout this new school year, an excellent start to the school year.
We particularly encourage parents to participate in their school’s general assemblies, which will take place in the first few days after the start of the school year, and to get involved in the various decision-making bodies in order to actively contribute to the governance of our education system. In the context of an election year that will inevitably lead to new political directions, it is all the more important that the roles reserved for parents by law be filled, that their voice be heard, and above all, that it be listened to.
The RCPAQ is taking advantage of the back-to-school season and the launch of the election campaign to call on the entire political class: education issues must absolutely be at the heart of this campaign, because education is a cornerstone of our society and a key driver of our collective progress.
We also reiterate the importance of undertaking a broad reflection on education, its methods, and the resources available to it. It is high time to determine together how to rethink our education system so that it truly meets our shared ambitions and the needs and potential of all our children, taking into account the realities of today and tomorrow. The RCPAQ is already preparing to participate in a potential initiative of this kind in order to bring the concerns, expectations, and aspirations of parents to the table.
However, this reflection must not be used as a pretext to postpone addressing education indefinitely. Reflecting on the future of our education system does not absolve us from improving our children’s learning conditions today.
Our experience in the field and the feedback we receive daily from parents across Quebec allow us to identify problems, but also solutions that can contribute to the improved functioning of our education system. We offer our full cooperation to the next Minister of Education and their ministry to identify concrete improvements and contribute to their implementation.
